Deaf Tree

Being culturally Deaf 
is so different, 
there’s no pity or shame 
when everyone in your family has a hearing loss no hearing test is needed 
there is gonna be some pride.. 
just like gay pride, 
we celebrated! 
our generative hearing loss 
that carried on for 
generations 
it was not a loss for us, 
nobody really cared about being able to hear every little thing 
we felt free, our family tree was distinct so unique 
and then there was the fact 
that we were also Black.. 
the African Diaspora resound 
we enjoyed the tempo 
music and dancing, 
exhortation, 
story telling, 
singing in ASL 
We shall take our 
Deaf Black pride 
To the grave
